Lesotho Meteorological Services
Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS), under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, is established to timely provide weather and climate information, issue warnings of severe weather, implement multilateral environmental agreements including for example the Montreal Protocol on ozone depleting substances (ODSs), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the World meteorological Organisation (WMO) Convention.
LMS operates and maintains a network of meteorological stations and carries out observation, prediction and providing weather data and information for national and international exchange as an integral part of the World Weather Watch (WWW) and the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
Advisories, services and products provided by LMS benefit a various sectors including water and water resource management, energy, agriculture and food security, transport, disaster management, health tourism; among other. LMS contributes to the socio-economic wellbeing of the nation and to the safety of life, property and environment, especially recognising that more than eighty percent of natural disasters are weather related.
