Our climate services
The Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) provides climate services that support informed decision-making across key sectors such as agriculture, water management, disaster risk reduction, and food security. One of its key products is the Seasonal Climate Outlook, which offers a long-term perspective on the upcoming cropping season by analyzing large-scale climate drivers such as the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and other regional climate patterns. Through this analysis, LMS provides forecasts on expected seasonal rainfall distribution, temperature trends, and potential drought or flood risks, enabling farmers, agricultural planners, and agribusinesses to make strategic decisions such as selecting suitable crop varieties, adjusting planting schedules, planning water resource management, and preparing for possible climate-related hazards, thereby helping to strengthen climate resilience, improve agricultural productivity, and reduce climate-driven losses in Lesotho
